Creating our unique space in the market

Yonas Kebede says Heartland gearing up for a big ‘25.

As we find ourselves gearing up for Q4 (and indeed all of 2025), I’m feeling optimistic about the trajectory of polypropylene markets and Heartland’s progress providing our customers a unique alternative as a producer located outside the Gulf region. These past two quarters weren’t without their challenges, but thanks to our planning and versatility, we were able to continue to deliver high quality homopolymer where it was needed, when it was needed.

Our homopolymer resins continue to receive positive feedback from customers as we continue to move partners through the qualification process and establish our key accounts. We’re delivering high melt flow reactor grade product that our customers report performs better in their processing machinery, allowing them to run at lower temperatures, and thereby helping them save on power requirements and even increasing their output. Helping our partners elevate their production possibilities with our quality resins and personalized service model is all a part of our commitment to better.

Random copolymers in 2025

Our team is excited about bringing random copolymers online in Q4 for tests, trials, and qualifications with an eye to contracting into 2025. We expect our random copolymers to be hallmarked by consistency of clarity and quality, with no impact on taste or odor, making it ideal for the food and beverage industry. Watch for updates in the new year as we bring our second product line to market, or reach out to Heartland sales today.

Sustainability

Sustainability continues to be an important part of the Heartland Polymers story and that of our customers. Our deliberate choices in production technology positioned our operation to provide a supplier option that was built from the ground up with sustainability in mind. Our updated operational lifecycle analysis is currently underway, and we’re looking forward to sharing data with our customers as the process evolves. We know this matters to our customers and their customers, and it continues to be an important part of our commitment to better.

Learning and getting better every day

This past year, as we faced a period of challenge with our PDH plant, we saw firsthand that Heartland’s ‘one team’ attitude is more than a nice sentiment.

Our PDH facility is our primary source of feedstock at Heartland, and as we dealt with some complex operating challenges, we made the choice to shut down for a short period to focus on the long-term success of the unit. I’m incredibly proud of the spirit of collaboration demonstrated by our production team, their brilliant problem-solving, and of course their primary focus on safety from start to finish. We have ramped up to meet 2024 production targets as we cast our eyes ahead to 2025.

Following the buzz of connections and networking we all experienced at NPE 2024, I joined our team in celebrating the Calgary Stampede in July – The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth. I was impressed with the integration of corporate activities at this one-of-a-kind event. There’s still nothing quite like in-person events to strengthen relationships. Perhaps we’ll see you there next year.

Good things ahead.
